Missions and Teaching Minister

Dave is currently on medical leave. If you would like to get in touch with him, please email him. He and his family welcome your prayers. If you have a question about something Dave would typically help you with, please email info@mgchurch.org and someone will get back with you.

Dave Thurman has been a Minister for nearly 40 years, and has served in churches in Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana. Currently, he is the Missions and Teaching Minister at Mt. Gilead, and has been at the church since 2002. Although Dave was born in Danville, Illinois, he grew up in Zimbabwe, Africa. In fact, Dave still has a $100 trillion Zimbabwe bill in his desk drawer – which unfortunately holds no value nowadays. Dave and his wife, Susan, have two children who are grown and married, and one granddaughter. Dave’s workday duties constantly evolve due to the nature of his ministry position; sometimes they’re full of study and lesson writing, while others are filled with meetings or visits with members, and also planning and leading mission trips.

The Bible passage that means the most to Dave is Romans 10:13-15: “For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’”

Romans 10 reminds me that lost people cannot ever come to faith unless they hear the good news, and unless people are sent to them with that news.
