Mt. Gilead offers a staffed nursery on Sunday mornings during all three services. Two nurseries are available: Rockers Nursery (birth to crawlers) and Walkers Nursery (for steady walkers to age 2). At times, the two nurseries are combined depending on the number of children in each room.

First-time families should report to the Preschool Welcome Center, which is located at the beginning of the blue hallway to the right of the Worship Center, for assistance in getting their children checked in.

Members and regular attendees can report to any nursery check-in station located in the blue hallway to check their children into programming and receive a security code sticker. The purpose of the sticker is to reach the parents. If the parent is needed, the code number will appear at the bottom of the large screen in the center of the Worship Center. Each child has a unique code, even within a family. If the number appears on the screen, the parents should promptly report to the classroom of the child needing assistance.

The people who work in our nursery are volunteers who are willingly sacrificing their time. We strongly encourage all parents to serve. For the safety of the children, all workers are trained and screened.

Our rooms offer swings, exer-saucers, bouncy seats, rocking chair, age-appropriate toys, and pack-n-plays. For nursing mothers, a rocking chair is located in the Mother's Room at the end of the hallway. Stop by the Preschool Welcome Center if you need assistance.

At this age, children are promoted from one nursery to the next based on their walking abilities. When they turn 2, they are promoted to the 2-year old class.

Most parents have questions about our nursery. The following are a few of the most common ones, along with the answers. If you have additional questions, please contact Jen Reed.

  • How do I find the nursery? If you enter Mt. Gilead through the main front doors, stop by the Information Center located on the right side of the lobby. You will be directed down the hall on the right side of the Worship Center to the Preschool Welcome Center where a volunteer will be available to assist you in getting your child(ren) checked-in and situated in the nursery.
  • What if my child cries when I leave? In most cases, children will quickly adjust. Once they see toys or are being rocked by a loving volunteer, they will become involved and calm down. The workers in the nursery are trained to deal with upset children; however, if your child continues to cry for more than 10 minutes, we will page you.
  • How can I be sure that no one else picks up my child? When you check in your child, you will receive three stickers that have your child's name on them. One is to place on your child's back; one is for your child's diaper bag; and one is for you to keep with you. When you pick up your child, you must present your sticker so that the nursery volunteers can match it with your child and your diaper bag.
  • How old does my child have to be before I can leave him in the nursery? There is no minimum age. Whenever the parents feel comfortable, they may leave their child.
  • How can I be sure that the volunteers can be trusted? All workers must fill out an application. We request two references for each volunteer, plus we do a criminal background check. All workers are screened and trained.
  • Is there a place to breastfeed my baby? There is a private room with a rocking chair available in the Mother's Room.
