Education

Mt. Gilead offers classes during all three Sunday services in an effort to help adults grow toward spiritual maturity by providing Biblical, Christ-centered studies as well as an opportunity to meet and interact with others. Here is the list of the current classes for the Winter quarter:

8:30 a.m.

The Letters of John

Randy Norman, Room B2

From the apostle John who wrote the Gospel of John and Revelation, also comes three short letters. There is disagreement over when these were written and whether they were before or after the other works. Regardless of the exact time, they were written after many heresies had begun to creep in and John needs to address them. Likely Paul and many other apostles had already been martyred and John was one of the few left to be witness of the truth. One of the most known and comforting verses is in the first letter; 1 John 5:13 (NASB) “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” Please join us as we learn from the inspired writing of John and how his words are as applicable today as they were when he first penned them.

9:50 a.m.

Connections

Randy Davee, Room B2

This is a permanent Sunday morning Adult Bible Fellowship class designed to build lasting relationships. The purpose of this class is to grow friendships, discuss the Word (this is not a lecture class), pray for and support each other and enjoy some extra fellowship outings. Everyone is welcome. No invitation is needed. There are new attendees all the time. Come check us out!

Fusion

Dave Thurman, Room G1

Webster’s Dictionary defines fusion as  “a merging of diverse elements into a unified whole.” This class, led by Dave Thurman, is a continuing class that meets on a weekly basis, offering fellowship and friendship as well as study and learning. In the winter quarter the class will be studying, “How to Give Away Our Faith.”

It is open to adults of all ages, and features coffee and breakfast finger foods each week. It’s a great place to meet people and to study Scripture in a discussion-oriented venue.

Merge

Terry Crist, Room G10

If you are new to Mt. Gilead, the four-week Merge class is a great way to learn more about Mt. Gilead Church, its beliefs, history, doctrine and what it means to be a member here.

This class also is designed to help you get acclimated into life at Mt. Gilead and assist you in developing a well-balanced spiritual walk. You will learn the five

steps that lead to spiritual maturity: Celebration, Learning, Inviting, Ministering and Belonging.

Each session typically runs four weeks.  A new session starts on the first Sunday of each month.

11:10 a.m.

Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit  (A study for women, using DVD’s featuring Francis Chan)

Debbie Cox, Room B11

Who is the Holy Spirit, and exactly what does He do? God put His Spirit in us so we could be known for our power. Sadly, most believers and churches are known for talent and intellect rather than supernatural power.  What’s worse is that we’re okay with it. In Forgotten God, Francis Chan returns us to the Holy Spirit as the Bible describes Him and invites us to understand, embrace and follow the Holy Spirit’s direction in our lives.

MG301 – Discovering Your SHAPE

Begins December 11

Dave Thurman, Room G1

God has created each of us uniquely, with our own SHAPE (Spiritual Gifts, Heart-Filled Passion, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences).  In this study, we’ll help you identify your SHAPE which will allow you to serve God with success and joy.  Along the way we will center in on the various Spiritual gifts the Bible talks about and provide a process for you to determine what gifts God has given you, while also discussing how personality styles, passion, and life experiences affect our ability to use our gifts fully for the Lord.  Plan to attend and take your service to a new level!
